I finally got back home around 6:00pm on Thursday from my trip to San Antonio. While dropping off Phoebe (my boss), I was carrying some things to her house when I felt this sharp pain in the back of my neck. It was like someone had stabbed me with a stick pin or something. A moment later, I felt it again. It was VERY painful. I turned and swatted, and hit something with my wrist, and was again struck with the sensation of being poked with something very sharp. I swung again, and once more, I had been poked. Or stung, really. It turned out that a 'wood wasp' had attacked me on the porch. I got stung at least twice on the neck and twice on the wrist. My neck did not swell as badly as my wrist did. In fact, my wrist is still swollen and feels like I slammed it against a door or something.
It has been a VERY long time since I have been stung. Not since I was a young child, and I remember that sting vividly. I was at a friend's house for a wedding or something, and a group of us children were running around and playing in a flowering bush, perhaps honeysuckle. I felt the same sharp pain I felt at Phoebe's house. I ran to my mother in pain.
This time, I put some topical ointment on the stings, and drove home. I am not allergic to wasps, though for some reason I had it my head that I was. When I got home, I took some Benedryl and laid down for a bit.
It is now 11:15pm and we are packing and getting ready to head out for our vacation!
I plan to give daily updates, so feel free to check in on us!
