A friend of mine ended up with a very bad break... His motorcycle went kaplunk, and it ain't one of those 'run around cheapies,' it's a touring bike that went belly-up on him. So, in a n effort to cheer him up, I "borrowed" (made up my own) lyrics to "Shameless" and sent him this:
Well Im bikeless when it comes to gettin' 'round
Ill just have to hit the ground
Ill do anything at all.
And Im walkin' here for all the world to see
Oh dammit, there's no bike for me
Guess I'm gonna make a call...
You know now Im not a man whos ever been
Bikeless 'round the world I've been living in
I guess they all break easy, I have no ride
But if there's a way to be satisfied
Im bikelesss, oh honey, I dont have a prayer
Every time you see me standin there
Thumbs up, beggin you please...
And Im changing, swore Id never cop a ride
Oh, but the bike convinced me otherwise
Called the mechanic, oh please.
You see in all my life Ive never found
What I couldnt ride hard, what I couldnt lay down
I have to walk around everywhere I wanna go
It'll cost me a fortune, NOoooo!!
I have never let anything have this much control over me
I work too hard to call my bike my own
And Ive owned myself a bike and it worked so perfectly
But its all dead now, I cant refuse
Ive never paid so much to lose
Oh, Im bikeless.
You know it should be easy just to walk along
To take a bus or admit that I'm lost
Ive never lost anything Ive ever missed
But Ive never been without my bike like this.
Its out of my hands.
Im bikeless, I dont have any power now
I dont want it anyhow
So I got to let it go.
Oh, Im bikeless, bikeless as a man can be
It made a total fool of me
I just wanted to get home...
Oh, Im bikeless, I just wanted you to know
Oh, Im bikeless, oh, I cant get a new HD...
Bikeless
We made quite a sacrifice today... Tyler went to the ballgame with the team, and he had wanted to eat crescent dogs (hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, like pigs-in-a-blanket). Well, since he was gone to the game, we thought it best not to cook one of his favorite foods while he wasn't here. We lamented our situation and gave in to one of the greatest sacrifices known to Prescott-kind.... Shan stopped by Sonic for supper on the way home. I know, I know. It's something that had to be done, though... For the sake of our eldest child... I reluctantly chose a couple corn dogs and cheesy tots, while Shan chose a burger and cheesy tots. The things we parents have to do for our children sometimes..... (For the record, that was full of sarcasm......)
I got a phone call from my brother's wife today. I find it humorous how people always attempt small talk with me before asking me for whatever computer-related favor they need. In a weird way, I appreciate that they don't just dive right in, but at the same time, I know why people call me. I'm not a big phone-talker. They know that too. So, I go along with it because in some ways, it is small conversation, though in my mind, I am waiting to hear, "The reason I called you....."
I did visit with my brother yesterday. He came down to move a sleeper-sofa into my Mom's house. He works for Accent, which provides tech support for Boost Mobile. My brother is THE consummate story-teller, many of which lean heavily to the 'tall-tale' variety, and the stories he was telling about working at Accent had me rolling on the floor!
